HHSixes 2021: UPDATE

As you will appreciate, despite success of vaccines development and roll out, the Global Covid19 situation remains a challenge for us all. It is highly unlikely conditions will be suitable to hold the event in 2021.

The HH Sixes Ad Hoc committee have taken into consideration global travel and international airlines situations, regional quarantine requirements, and specific current Covid19 conditions amongst participating teams and countries, and it was inevitable to further postpone the 25th Anniversary of the Hua Hin Cricket Sixes to 2022.

Looking ahead, we are more hopeful now than 6 months ago 2022 will be a more positive year.

In particular, experiences of 2020/2021 and our review of dates (including feedback from participants) suggest June/July maybe more appropriate going forward for the following reasons:

1/ Cricketers and Clubs all round are not constrained by end of season Finals. This is particular true for Cup teams and Pro Players.

2/ Traditionally Easter holidays have provided us with good window of opportunity for families to travel. However, we feel the June/July school holiday provide a much larger window with almost 3 weeks break.

3/ it’s Australian winter time and Hua Hin warm weather should prove as extra incentive.

4/ it’s Thailand’s low tourist season and therefore opportunities for lower accommodation costs at the Dusit HH and other hotels in HH town.

We appreciate it’s the beginning of rainy season in Thailand. Rain in Thailand is more commonly prevalent late afternoon hence we should be able to get most matches in by then. We will additionally need to think of contingency plans in such an event.

As such and based on 2022 Victorian school holidays, we have tentatively agreed to the following agenda:

June 24-Last day of school

June 25-27: Travel to Thailand/HH

June 28-July 5: Tournament during this period. Final dates to be determined.

We hope you will understand our decision and that proposed dates are both acceptable as well as providing ample time for Covid-19 to come under control and for your Teams’s preparations.

Happy to receive your comments and in particular, whether these dates would be suitable for you and your team.
