Hua Hin Sixes - Rules
(M.C.C Laws of Cricket are followed except where otherwise stipulated)
1.1 Each team is asked, before the start of their first game, to submit to the Organiser a list of their nominated players (maximum of eight) from which six players shall be drawn for each game. No team shall field a non-nominated player.
1.2 A Veterans player is defined as a person who is over 50 years of age.
1.3 A Masters player is defined as a person who is over 35 years of age.
1.4 The Organiser must approve any request to vary these playing qualifications. In general, any request from a team in the Masters competition to have more than one player under the age of 35 who is neither a current first class player nor has played First Class cricket in the previous ten years, or from a team in the Veterans competition to have more than one player aged 45-50 as a part of their list of eight, will not be considered.
1.5 One player from each team will act as Captain for the duration of the competition, even though not necessarily playing in each match. The Captain’s responsibilities on behalf of the team will include:
Nominating six (6) players and completing batting and bowling lists at least 30 minutes ahead of every game;
Ensuring team punctuality;
Ensuring proper player behaviour; and
Acting on the team’s behalf in the case of disputes.
Movement between Veterans, Masters and Cup Competitions
2.1 Under normal circumstances, it is acceptable for a player, having no “recent” First Class or international experience, to move up a level from Veterans to Masters, or from Masters to Cup, to assist a higher team because they are short of players. A Masters player is allowed to play for a Cup side but not vice versa. A Veterans player is allowed to play for a Masters side but not vice versa.
2.2 Teams intending to exercise such a right must inform the Organiser and other teams at the Captains’ Meeting prior to start of the tournament, or as soon as possible thereafter.
Varying a Team List Because of Injury
3.1 In the case of an injury during the tournament, a Captain must seek approval from the Organiser - and subsequently inform all other captains - that he/she intends to utilise a Masters player in a Cup side or a Veterans player in a Masters side.
3.2 A team needing, because of injuries, to field a non-nominated player in any match, must first approach the Organiser who will seek approval from all captains within the team’s group to the request. A player approved by the other captains in this way becomes a nominated player for that team. Should the injured player/s replaced recover to be fit enough to play again, his/her/their captain will request the Organiser to seek the approval of the captains in the group to reinstate the player/s. The originally approved replacement will in such cases, step down.
3.3 Any other request for a player to perform additional duties for another side will not be allowed except under exceptional circumstances, and only with the Organiser’s approval.
4.1 One Organiser shall be in charge of the tournament on each day. The Organiser’s decision on any point of dissension shall be absolutely final.
4.2 Neutral umpires will adjudicate each game. No player nominated in the tournament shall umpire in any game.
4.3 Each game is played between two teams of six players and consists of a maximum of 5 six ball overs bowled by each side (noting the provisions of 4.8.1 and 4.8.4 which state that a wide and a no ball is only re-bowled in the last over of each innings). The 5 overs are to be bowled from one end only. Prior to the start of each innings the captain of the fielding side will nominate which end the five overs are to be bowled from.
4.4 Each member of the fielding side must bowl one over, with the exception of the wicketkeeper who is not allowed to bowl.
4.5 The wicketkeeper is nominated by the Captain before the first over of each game and cannot be changed during the course of the game (noting the provisions of 6.5). The wicketkeeper must wear gloves whilst fielding and stand within 25 metres of the stumps at the striker’s end at the instant of delivery. (A different wicketkeeper can be used for each game if so desired.)
4.6 Underarm bowling is strictly prohibited.
4.7 The maximum run up for the bowler is 5 metres.
4.8 Runs and extras will be scored in accordance with the Laws of Cricket with the following exceptions:
4.8.1 A penalty of four Wide ball extras shall be awarded on the call of Wide; no extra ball(s) are bowled except in the last over of each innings;
4.8.2 To assess a wide delivery, two lines are drawn at a distance of 24” from the middle stump at right angles to the crease and extending from the bowling crease. A delivery passing the bowling crease outside these lines shall be designated a Wide ball, provided there is no contact between the ball and the striker’s bat or person, and, provided the ball does not pass between the striker and his wicket;
4.8.3 On the call of Wide ball, the ball shall be considered to have been dead from the instant of delivery, i.e. neither batsman shall be out, and only four extras will be awarded.
4.8.4 A penalty of four No Ball extras shall be awarded on the call of No Ball; no extra ball(s) are bowled except in the last over of each innings. In addition to the four extras for the No Ball, any runs completed by the batsmen or any boundary allowance shall be credited to the striker if the ball has been struck by the bat, otherwise they shall be scored as No Ball extras;
4.8.5 The ball remains live after the call of No Ball. Furthermore, the normal Laws of Cricket shall apply to the call of No Ball, e.g. if after delivery the ball is considered a wide, a call of No Ball shall over-ride the call of Wide ball;
4.8.6 A delivery which pitches off the carpeted area of the pitch shall be called a No Ball;
4.8.7 Any short-pitched delivery which after pitching passes, or would have passed, over the shoulder height of the striker standing upright at the popping crease shall be called a No Ball by either umpire;
4.8.8 Any high full-pitched delivery which passes, or would have passed, on the full above the waist height of the striker standing upright at the popping crease shall be called a No Ball by either umpire;
4.8.9 If at the instant of delivery the wicketkeeper is more than 25 metres away from the stumps at the striker’s end, No Ball shall be called by the square leg umpire; and
4.8.10 If at the instant of delivery the bowler has come from a run up of greater than 5 metres, No Ball shall be called by the square leg umpire.
5.1 A batsman must retire not out on reaching a personal score of:
in the Cup/Masters competitions - 35 runs
in the Veterans competitions - 25 runs,
and may not return to continue his/her innings, including if one of the last pair of batsmen is out before completion of five overs. The batsman may complete all runs possible off the shot that takes him/her to, or past, 35/25, e.g., if on 34/24 he/she then hits a boundary the full score will be added, of if he/she is able to run additional runs past 35/25 they will also be counted.
5.2 A batsman cannot retire before he/she has reached 35/25 runs, except in exceptional circumstances as determined by the umpires/Organiser.
5.3 If five (5) wickets fall before the five overs are completed, the last remaining batsman bats on and is the only one who can score runs. Therefore, if he/she scores 1, 3, or 5 he must return to the batting crease. The last remaining batsman will be declared out if his partner is dismissed.
6.1 Substitution is allowed only for an injury during the game, and no other reason.
6.2 Once a substitute is introduced, the player being replaced is not permitted to play again in the game under any circumstances.
6.3 If a player is injured during the game that player, in accordance with the Laws of Cricket and subject to the umpires’ approval, may have a runner when batting.
6.4 If a fielder is injured during the game that player may have a substitute act for him/her in the field subject to the umpires’ approval. This substitute may be allowed to bowl, if the player he/she is replacing has not already bowled, and to bat if the said player has not batted. However, any substitute(s) cannot commence batting until all other nominated players in the team have batted.
6.5 If a wicketkeeper is injured during the game, he/she may be substituted but the substitute shall not bowl.
6.6 If all the fielders are not on the field when the game commences then the whole game will be played with the number of players present at the start of the game. The opposing captain may nominate the member(s) of the fielding team to bowl any over required to make up for missing fielders, but no bowler may bowl two consecutive overs or part thereof.
7.1 The game is won by the side having the highest score after the completion of the game. If the total scores are the same, the side losing the fewest wickets is judged the winner.
7.2 In the event of both scores still being the same, the side which has scored most runs from the bat (i.e. total runs less all extras) wins.
7.3 Two (2) points are awarded to the winning side. If all of the above (7.1 and 7.2) cannot determine a winner, each side gets one (1) point. In addition, if due to weather or bad light a scheduled round match cannot be commenced or completed before the finals, each side gets one (1) point.
7.4 In the event of the total number of points being equal in any table on the completion of a round, the superior position should be judged by using the following criteria in order:

7.5 In all finals matches (quarter, semi and final) in which scores are equal (i.e. same number of wickets lost and same number of runs scored) the result shall be determined through a tie breaker based on a 'one' over per team eliminator (Super Over):
The Super Over will commence five minutes of the conclusion of the match.
The captains will toss a coin to decide which side bats/bowls first. The fielding team shall choose the
end from which to bowl. Wides/no balls shall be re-bowled.
Prior to the start of the Super Over each team shall select three batsmen and one bowler, and advise the
scorers/umpires in writing of the selected players.
The loss of two wickets in the same over ends the team's one over innings.
7.5.5 In the event that teams are tied at the end of the Super Over, having scored the same number of runs and lost the same number of wickets, a second Super Over will be played in accordance with 7.5.1 – 7.5.4. There is no requirement for new players to be added in order to participate in the subsequent Super Over.
8.1 All equipment shall comply with M.C.C. Laws of Cricket. Cricket balls will be supplied by the organising committee (No new balls).
9.1 Teams shall be ready to take the field of play when called. Captains should conduct the toss before the conclusion of the game PRIOR to their game, and have batsmen/wicketkeeper suitably attired to take the field as soon as the previous game is completed.
9.2 After the fall of a wicket, the incoming batsman must cross with the dismissed batsman on the field of play. Failure to do so will constitute a four (4) run penalty against the batting side.
10.1 Decisions by the umpires on the field of play, and by the Organiser in all other matters, are final. In the opinion of the umpires/Organiser any player behaving in a manner contrary to the Spirit of Cricket shall be disqualified from further play in the tournament following due and fair warning from the said official/s.
10.2 The Organiser reserves the right to amend the rules at any time if such action is considered to be in the interests of the competition.
